Sharon Barbakov – Work Plan
I plan to be attentive and open to all opportunities.
I want to challenge myself and to go through experiences that are less comfortable for me especially in the dance field (eg Contact and improvisation)
I will work hard in class. Listen to the instructions and look for the implications of them in my body, during class and in the individual work time.
Work on my balance and on my flexibility in my hip joint and spine.
Keep working on long, soft and flowing movement try not to move in a stiffly way if not mean to and do not put so much power while dancing and preforming if it is not part of the choreography.
I want to meet new people and new cultures and together get know Budapest.
I want to create a solo. Deals with the subject of distance via various ways. Show it at the end of the period but continue work on it in next the periods. Maybe develop it into a duet.
I want to continue to develop my confidence when it comes to dance.
I'm going to improve my English.
Be attentive to my feelings and my body and to know synchronize between both.
SUMMARY | 2017 June
I am going to divide this summary into 2 main parts. The first will compare and analyze the goals I set for myself in my first work plan to the current situation as I see it.
The second part will regard to my feedback about the school, teachers, studying environment and personal development.
The work plan I wrote in January will be used as a reference point.
-Collection of situations and coping modes were throwing me out of my comfort zone especially in dance. It was challenging and redefined my own limits which were expanded.
-Working hard and being highly concatenated were developing gradually. For the last period, I feel that I'm very motivated to work hard and to being aware of all what is happening in the class.
-I made physical work plan routine which significantly improved my posture, my strength and flexibility. Most of the time I followed the tasks and I expect to keep use this method in future.
-I was researching my softness and fluent movement. But I feel I didn't discover yet the strategy that is effective for me and I should keep on searching for these qualities.
– Thanks to Ivan, my solo "Dis" was developed into a duet with Attila which was an interesting and pleasant experience for me to work on and with.
– I see myself now as a part of a big world and curious to see more cultures and languages. From the other hand my Israeli identity was evaluated and got more meanings for me.
General feedback:
The Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy is conducting in a very different way of what I use to in my home Academy in Jerusalem, from the educational approach to the dance classes methods. I found this difference constructive in a lot of senses.
In general, I felt that I became integrated pretty good and fast. I do feel part of school. The school and the system were very welcoming and open towards me.
The individual work was an amazing platform to make progress and I found it a very meaningful and serious way of work and study for me.
In the technical physical level, the classes and the content were satisfying and efficient for me to develop dance body and dance skills. Most of the classes were conducted in a professional and comprehensive way. Especially, I enjoyed and felt developing in Tibors' ballet classes. I like his pedagogic approach and technical precision.
From the other hand, I felt that strengthen classes as Pilates and Yoga are missing. Sometimes I felt that the body health or prevention of injuries is not high enough in the priority of the school agenda.
In the social aspect, the atmosphere is close and supportive. The school has a community sensation and it is very helpful regarding to the full schedule and requires.
I feel that my independency as an adult person and as a dancer artist was taken from me. I think that I am used to be in an environment that trusts me more, giving me more freedom and driving me to develop my responsibility according to that. I felt that the system is not encouraging personal and independent ideas and in that sense I was disappointed. I wish to study and work in more open and respectful atmosphere.
I feel that my time here, thanks to the classes and Ivan, helped me to understand what are my advantages and disadvantages in the dance field. And at the same time, to understand to what I feel connect to or don't. As a result I wish to keep and look for the balance between all these components.
As an exchange student I wish I have a bit more informative accompaniment. Most of the tasks I discovered hardly and was struggling to get clarity.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2017 June
Sessi Krisztina: I am happy for meeting you! You caught up everything very quick and you could use a lot of things already at the begining. I can see that your brain is working and you really try to solve some things on your own but after if its really not working you ask. You got the great vibe of folk dance i see you always enjoying what you are doing and always trying to do what i ask you to do. You have to work on rythm because there are a lot of times that you can do it but after a while you ar focusing too much and start to be stressed, so after a while you loose the rythm. Your body is hard working, never really seen you tired. Its good because i see you can use energy in a right way. Keep it up!
