SUMMARY | 2015 December
Sumarry for period September – December 2015
In the passed four months I have learned a lot about my body, my concentration, my energy use, focus, many different qualities, tensions -releasing, impulses, power of the center, contractions, travelling through space, gravity use, body weight use, elegant moves, force impact, improvisation, contact, group working, communication, variety of mood, rhythm, listening to music consciously, personal motivation, individual work, warming up before classes, practicing, creating process, patience, presence, being present (I have missed only 3 classes in this 2 periods), responsibilities – personal and comunity. I think I worked hard, learned and improoved a lot. I can countinue like this in the future, but still be ready to change anytime.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2015 December
Lőrinc Katalin: you made a huge step from our beginning to now! Started in september by being too soft, too floppy, going a bit in each possible direction…, and then suddenly (all right: may be gradually) you understood the system. You gethered your energies, and started to direct your strenght in the right ways, that means: the ways wich are right for your own body. The result: real dancing! Honest, sincere presence, alongated energy-lines and, – seemingly enjoyment too. (Am I right, that I feel you rather enjoy doing this lately?)
Hód Adrienn: you are mature and ready for improvisation. Your body has participated in the forms and states with richness and joy. You are there brave, with dynamism and attention.
Marco Torrice: she is a quite hard worker. Strong center and a pretty compact body. All of this, made of her a quite agile dancer, ready for dynamics, challenges and risks taking.
I would encourage her to pay more attention on separations, on the use of superfluous muscles, on the space between the joints, as well as the space between the end of a movement and the beginning of the next one.
By creating space, information can travel more easily from one part of the body to another and to the floor, and vice versa.
WORKPLAN | 2016 January
In the next period I will focus more on creating proces, I want to learn different ways to create new matiral. I will be inspired and connect with other students. I want to discover sensibility of the art work. I want to research the movements and give them special meaning. In technical classes I will especially work on my turning and elegance (soft ways – not hard). I want to give focus also on breathing. Find the connections between begining of the next movement and the end of the previous. On my body I want to focus more on inner muscules not so much the surface. I will practice my memory as well (remember the exercises faster)! I want to continue with the same working energy I had in the past period.I will make my notes more useful and reach.

SUMMARY | 2016 June
In the last periods I had a chance to learn about many different ways of understanding the body and movement. At this point my mind was mainly focused on understanding and realizing the importance of the mechanics – where is the end of one movement and how does it connects with the next one. It is still a mistery for me sometimes but I feel I have started to understand it more and more. In general I've been also working a lot on awareness of the WHOLE body – to be aware of everything, with inside and outside factors: conecctions with the space, conection with the floor and the people around me, rhytm, the weight, gaze, presence, look, focus, head position, fingers, toes, energy impact, diferret quallities.
The experiance of performance has also opened a new dymensions for me in a sence of steping in the unknown direction. It gave me the motivation and curiosity to discover it and to deepen my knowledge of creation, composition and performing acts.
Allthough I could sence a leak of energy and concentration in the classes, especially now in the last weeks. I am still doing the best that I can in a range of my body and health capabilities. Sincerely, with a tought of keeping it till the end!
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2016 June
Kováts Tibor: Julija have been working very hard throughout this year. She has improved a lot in all aspects. The height of her jumps is good, and her turns are becoming better, too, though these latter mentioned are not yet enough nice. How she works with her arms and how she coordinates is unprecise, though she developed this as well. She is a great person and her relation to work is exemplary. She almost never has a bad day. She builts herself quite consciously and she does not let herself being influenced by others’ negative attitude. She also improved in memorising the order of the exercises. However, even if she performed very well, all off a sudden she could still create some unrecognizable movements. This makes me think that she needs a couple of years to gain enough knowledge and routine that will make her self-confident. Congratulations; I wish to thank her the invested work and trust.
About the group: In the second semester I managed to get know the personalities, strenghts and weaknesses of the students. Their professional performance was not well balanced, in other words their accomplishments varied a lot. Only a few of them is capable to acquire all what they were taught, therefore the exercises and the steps have to be repeated again and again. We carried out much less than I had planned to. The group is split into two parts: some students improved permanently and consistently, while the others did not. The latter mentioned ones obstructed those who were motivated and focused, because we could not dictate the same tempo for all; in contrary, we had to re-start and always repeat the same class materials.
Cseri Péter: She is very-very attentive, and works very well; she has a good base to develop.
Horváth Nóri és Mészáros Máté: You have good coordination and your body is well constructed. You have a good energy and you are a colorful point in the group. keep working this way like you did in this year.
Szemessy Kinga: Excellent
You are a last minute person, aren’t you? Last minute submission of the essay homework, last minute awakening that you have exam at the same day. Luckily your good improvising skills and general smartness could save you from all inconvenience, but it might be interesting to try out how you can avoid to become 200% overloaded. Business makes your performance mutable: sometimes outstanding, other times inconsiderable. For instance, the first paragraph of your essay does not follow the original task that you were supposed to do, even if it is very nicely written. (You were asked to ‘describe’ the piece and not to include additional brochure information, e.g. the bio of Piergiorgio Milano and the translation of padilla.) Beside this, just like to your colleagues, I would highly recommend you to use the Microsoft Word’s English auto-correction, instead of leaving the document’s language in Slovenian.
By reading your other two paragraphs and remembering the issues you brought up at the exam in connection to Sacred Monsters, I am sure that you have good verbal skills, very vivid thinking and also strong capacities to be an engine of the group. Well, having all these given virtues is responsibility, too, because your teachers and your classmates will always count on you. Bare this in mind and try to find a way how to balance between your extreme states. I am definitely crossing fingers for you.
Sessi Krisztina: Julia, you are working really good on the classes. Your body and your brain started to understand the sence of the folk dance. Your body started to be also confident with improvisation in folk dance. It is really important. You have a compact body which is also a big advantage especially in the partner dances , people can lead you really good. Try not to get disappointed if something is not working for the first time.

– learned how to do autocorrections
– got new muscles
– more control in every movement – awarenes of body
– got to know my balance
– connecting my body with the space around me, so I can elongate and relax some body parts
– I learned how to recognize the problem within the turn – piruets, started to feel spiral

– I am proud I have never been late to school in this period
– I was sleeping more than last year
– Generally Individual work; a lot of time I didn't have time to do all the things I planed to do in 90min, whenever I start to work on something I like to go very deep into one thing and it takes a lot of time. I took time to relax and meditate usually after school, I can not do it in individual time
– every day I wrote down exercises and tasks from the class; this helped me a lot to improve and digeste things from classes
– I got sick only once and no injury in this period
– Generally on creative process; I got in tuch with compossition and coreography – work with group of people- this was super precious experience for me; I have learned how to be organised and prepared in advance before rehearsals, to have more ideas, to be able to let go some ideas and accept other solutions
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2016 December
Bakó Tamás:
Dear Julia!
You are really an active worker you listen carefully and mindfuly, at the same time you create very positive energies around you. Your attitude is mature and supportive. Your practice is more and more comprehensive and filled with understanding. You have a strong and compact body but you have soft qualities too. By now these qualities are in a closer dialogue. Postural integrity and functionality is emerging. You explore the potential of anatomical and physical principles to support your dance from a wider ground. Carry on!
Julija is incredibly determined this year! She works very seriously and with great concentration. She has the endeavour to absorb all the information given. Her improvement is the most visible at the balance exercises, because she can remain on pointe for long and her turns are very stable, too. Her coordinaion has improved a lot and it takes shorter time for her to arrange her movements. Keep going on!
Cseri Péter: General notes to all 2016 autumn students and now to the individual material:
Julija! Nice calm phase you represent in your work, that is a good thing, you don’t stress unnecessarily. However like many of you could work on spatial coordination. Both in and outside your body. You could invent short exercises for yourself and teach it to yourself to the left side and even reverse the exercises.
Szemessy Kinga: General notes: Comparing to what we are used to with and what facilities we have, this was quite an extraordinary class setting with 17 students participating. In some occasions it caused very exciting roundtable conversations unfolding how differently we perceive the same problems, while other times we could just barely keep the energies together and giving space for everyone’s ideas. However, even if in this kind of setting it is easy to disappear, in general I did not experience this attempt from the students’ side. We dived into notions and theories around “naturalness”, “freedom” and “self”, and studied about various dance practitioners who were investigating these terms in the 20th century. Except some cases, the quality of the presentations were either appropriate or high, and the essays show nice results as well. I’d call it a good start for the newcomers, and a worth-while and in-depth revisiting of materials with those we had class last semester.
Julija! You are still and again the best driving force of the group. You are happy sharing your vision on the upcoming topics, but also to carefully listen to others’. Keep having this attitude throughout your studies and later on as well.
About your presentation: Next time it would worth to try speaking out the whole presentation in advance bringing it to the class, therefore the difficulties (in pronouncing names, or in the theoretical links) may rise earlier than on the spot. Beside this, I found your work well-prepared, and presented in an engaged and understandable way.
Grade: Excellent
Mészáros Máté & Horváth Nóra: You stayed on the same level to compare to last classes but your energy and participation was very positive. You will have to work on your preparations for the jumps and improve your coordination to be able to do the exercises right and left as well on the same level.
MENTOR'S SUMMARY | 2017 January

SUMMARY | 2017 June
In the following text I will generaly summarize the afficancy of my work at the Academy in the last semester, find conclusions of my learning processes and describe important discoveries wich would help me in the future.
I found out that in the last months in all dance classes I realy tried to keep my focus on the details and to be precize with the material or tasks given by teachers. Many times this strategy blocked me, drove my attantion far away from my autentic movement language and I felt the affect on my body was wrong (unpleasant tention in muscles, frustrarions, confuzion). I am aware that I can be very disciplined and hard working however this quallities can have negative affect on progress. In dance practice there are moments wich can not be made or forced but you need to 'let them happen'. The more I tried to be correct with movements the less present I became in my body. With my positive toughts I was sure I am on the level where I can focuse on the details but what I learnd in the last weeks is the opposite: I still need to search for the esence of each movement and feel how this can be executed on my own body structure. I shall never forget about awareness of the WHOLE body, the strategy of working with details doesn't work for me. I shouldn't be afraid to make a step back and forget everything I have learned untill now in order to feel and think differently.
Even though I feel my progress in dance techniques haven't raised much I belive this must be the part of the process in wich I must learn and relearn everything about my personality, habits patterens, energy impact and creativity. I know I have much more capacity I haven't used yet, there is much more room for improovement and I need to find a ways/strategies to get there.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2017 June
Szemessy Kinga: Your strong presence seemed to be weakened a bit during this semester, but still the class could be grateful for the numerous thought provoking remarks you added to the materials. Keep this humble, but always questioning attitude you have.
Szegedy-Maszák Zsuzsanna: During class discussions and in her oral presentation on a painting by Hodler, Julija demonstrated that she has particular talents in collaborative learning and critical thinking. Her approach was less research-oriented and more creative, which engaged other students. It was a pleasure to work with her and have her in the class. I wish her well in her future artistic pursuits.
MENTOR'S SUMMARY | 2017 June
Lévai Viola: Julia, when I saw you at school and asked if you need something, you were always going somewhere to dance, practice, rehearse.
Good.
I saw, you are in the sistem, you create, work, busy with your things: working on details, going deep in dance and yourself even if I didnt see you dance so much in this period.
You wanted to practice some folk with me, we didnt do it yet. I dont know, if you found answers for your questions…Im still here to practice 🙂
You have one more year here to open your creativity, fallow and discover your body and 'let it happen', so make the best use of your time 🙂

SUMMARY | 2017 December
General focus overlook
I could mostly follow my wish of applying movement to my own body structure and finding authentic expressions in movement materials on the classes. I am still in a (re)search for my personal advantages and qualities. Sometimes I was missing concentration and patience for deeper understanding of complexity of mechanics in the given materials. In general I notice the tendency that I could easily deep into a state of letting go the thoughts and surrender to the situations instead of dealing with difficulties. This kind of solutions are sometimes helping and they unconsciously bring me to move very freely but also border my curiosity and knowledge development. I wish to make more conscious decisions without loosing the freedom of choices.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2017 December
Angelus Iván:
Dear Group B members!
You are a pretty heterogeneous group in age, in level of commitment, diligence, efficiency. This also means that you could learn a lot from each other being positive or negative experiences. You also have the experience of a few years: How you or your mate started continued and where this attitude led him/her until now. You all – all – have the possibility to improve or even change if necessary your attitude.
Iván
Hi Julija!
I see you very strong in acting, creating character, atmosphere, less prepared in composing, in creating – at the moment. I'd go for gathering experiences with working under the guidance of others – you will have opportunities hopefully. I suggest you to go to the edge of your possibilities in strength, technic, agility, focus, body, culture.
Wish you a good time in your last half year!
Iván
Tijen Lawton:
Very nice and beautiful energy and enthusiasm. Work more on details and channelling of energies to discover more possibilities , to be able to make more choices and investigate more elaborate, personal movement qualities and integrate the body on the floor and standing. Use the strength and information you ingrate in the body through floor work to strengthen standing work and allow for you fragility to shine through. Also allowing for more balance and managing between control and release and projection of moment into space. Each for nuances…detail…mindful thinking…Keep up the good work and looking forward to researching these possibilities together.
Mészáros Máté:
very good in general in attitude and learning strategy. open and encouraging for the others as well.
Marco Torrice:
The group worked with a lot of enthusiasm and passion, reaching a nice result and giving me a lot of inputs. I generally encourage this group to work more on the continuity of attention, both on the individual level as well as a group.
Great energy and approach to my work, really joyful but focused at the same time. This is a quite rare quality that I encourage her of being more aware of it and on the result that she get through this approach both personally and on the group. I also encourage her to work more on extension, on the size of the movements.
Szemessy Kinga:
This semester some of you seemed to be incredibly overloaded, while others were less – I assume this made a lot of you missing classes mostly at the end of the year. In spite of the fluctuating energy level that made it complicated to maintain the effectiveness, I believe we visited a vast amount of approaches to ”dance and translation”.
You were attentive and supportive as always. Also in my head I often called you the shephard as you were managing many situation that might have gone wild – debates, streams of complaints etc. I believe it is kind of the same sensitiveness and honesty that you posses when being on stage. It's been a pleasure having you at the classes.
Bögöthy Ádám:
Julija did a great job this semester. We worked on sight-reading and some technical things on bass guitar. She did her homework very well week to week, hopefully everything will stay the same in next semester. She is a very open student for all kind of music.
Bakó Tamás:
Your practice is more and more comprehensive and filled with understanding.
Your motion capacity is understood in new ways. There is craft and engagement, awareness and functionality.
Lines, angles, directions and forms have clarity and connectedness. I see full dancing.
Starting the last period the question will be what is left to do and what comes after schooling, how to go on.
Continue to explore the idea and practice of dance and performance.
Find your instruments and approaches to meet your artistic purposes.
Várnagy Kristóf:
You are a kind person, and your practice is very kind too. It has beautiful soft qualities, but it is also often too forgiving. Therefore many times I feel you don`t arrive at your full potential. Resilience, tenacity, perseverance are the words that I wish you to make into your mantras for the ballet class.

SUMMARY | 2018 June
In the last half of the year I was mostly busy with summery. I was making a pile of all the knowledge that I got in a way of gathering it and mixing it with my own understanding of dance. I was mostly chewing the information presents I got from my teachers or colleagues. I had to use my own teeth and saliva to decompose precious informations. I also started to connect those informations in order to make them mine.
I was mostly working with movement principals that interests me personally, more than separated exercises. The principals that I was working with and connect them to my everyday practice:
– Breathing through movement
– Limits of extensions in the body
– Different energy input as a tool to challenge physical states
– Balancing between release and control
– Projecting movements into space
– Awareness of weight of my body in connection with gravity
– Affection of spiral
– Rhythmical and dynamic changes
– Affection of group on individual and affection of individual on the group
In understanding of each principal I reached a certain level of knowing of HOW to work on them to apply them on my body structure and improve them. I see it as a first step towards deeper understanding of my dance training.
The other important aspect of my work in last semesters is my thesis research through which I faced myself with difficulties of dance documentation – How to write about dance. After this experience I wish to say that dance should be practical and not theoretical. However writing is a good practice for concentration and focused thinking.
I found one main direction of dance that interests me the most right now and with which I would like to continue working with after my studies. That direction is the research group work in shape of social relation composition, creation orientated developing dance practice, what I touched with my thesis. I discovered about myself that I like to work with people and people mostly like to work with me. I want to use this skill and find more ways of connecting it with my dance career.
I wanted to write about my experience of performing on stage this year and compare with previous years, but I still need more time to emotionally reflect on what happened. Now my thoughts are pretty messy and can only write that each time I get the privilege to be on stage is very precious and it affects me a lot so I need a lot of time to digest and analyze my sincere feelings towards it. I usually get overexcited when I perform so I find myself in euphoric state of mind which is difficult to look back on.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2018 June
Angelus Iván:
General notes to the group: Group "B" is a functioning, working group of very different individuals. Synergy is ambivalent. Sometimes excellent for almost all, sometimes harmful for almost all.
You all – may be – are more selfish and more lonely than you wish, however you are often helpful to each other. Group cohesion finds often negative or virtual goals. No matter who is the source of a (bad) idea, who follows happily, who goes with the majority and who is who thinks differently but doesn't dare to, or can not stop group processes. Having a four member company with a tattoo sign on them, inside the group is something to care in group dynamics.
I have added a short categorization: Excellent, good, weak, failed. All refer to your actual state as a prospective contemporary dance performing artist from my point of view as your teacher. Do not accept, improve.
Personal notes: You didn't change your body, but you learned to accept it and handle it. You didn't understand yourself, but you got closer to that. I see you floating over fix points and not finding and contacting roots you are searching for. Therefore you act often somehow floating, that is dangerous in relation to humans especially, including yourself. You can build up a functioning virtual personality, but you will remain unhappy inside. Hope you will avoid that.
Marco Torrice:
GROUP B – Is an amazing a supportive group, full of talents, enthusiasm and joy. They are really attentive and supportive towards each other and was an extreme pleasurable and stimulant experience for me to work with them.
Personal notes: She integrate my work really fast and found quite a good space of self expression. Keep it up!
Szemessy Kinga:
I am sorry for the confusion about the thesis requirements, but as many times as I think it through, I must notice that somehow it was only you for whom the rules had not been clear. I think at the moment you are on a very meaningful but though journey with finishing it up, furthermore I believe this process has taught you a lot about how to communicate your work, desires and concerns (e.g. with Defne). I'm crossing fingers for you!
Tijen Lawton:
Instinctive and earthly rigour and precision of life. Make your own understanding of it a physical memory and use this physical memory to create movement. This is how we create freedom and space by understanding the mindful training of both mind and body. A global thinking and a constant focus and limitless, instinctive, precision. I can see that the process you went through resonates in your final result and in you are an amazing performer, strong and authentic, yet questioning and sensitive to radically and the disturbance of the self. You touch the space that we know within, that sense of tumbling out and in, reversing inside and outside.I look forward to your seeing thinking and energy resonate in the artistic field that we share.
Mikó Dávid:
open the eyes and face more
Várnagy Kristóf:
General notes to the group: I feel the group has improved in the second half of the season, and became more supportive and open for others, yet more balanced and focused in individual works.
However, I also want to address a worryingly growing trend, that you feel it is optional to visit classes, eg. increasing numbers of sleep overs, or calling sick.
Don`t abuse the system that you agreed on, cause you`ll be loosing your most valuable assets as profeesionals, your reliability, and credibility.
Personal notes: You came through the second half of the season, by creating your own style of ballet by finding a delicate flow to your practice.
Bakó Tamás:
Your practice is more and more comprehensive and filled with understanding.
