COMPOSITION WORKSHOP – 20-24. NOVEMBER 2017

The goal of this workshop is to give you inspiration, time and space to gather experiences on composing/componer/сочинять/sestavite/säveltää/sammansätta/, …

What shall we compose?
The space and time and dynamic experience inside the inner content of the audience:
both in the individual member of the audience and the audience as a group.
We could understand this question on several levels, however at this workshop we select just this one of the many.

How shall we gather experiences? Step by step!

Monday – SPACE
– every participant will create three situations aimed to move the SPATIAL experience of the spectator or/and the audience. You can create there or you can prepare, bring materials and improve there, anyway first we'll work alone,
– than we'll create groups of three and show the results to each other. Unfortunately everybody can not see all the results, (more than 90 minutes if we suppose one minute events) so the groups will select one of the solutions of each group member and the last half an hour we will see only one – no longer than one minute – etude/dancer,

Tuesday – TIME
– The second day we will repeat the same process with events that organize the TEMPORAL experience of the spectator. You will see the whole process better, so you can come better prepared, and your events can be – if necessary(!) – two minutes long.

Wednesday – FORCE (Dynamics)
The same process with events that create DYNAMICAL experiences in the audience.

Thursday – COMBINATIONS
Of course what we do the first three days will create complex experiences anyway, however you are supposed to concentrate to inspire the aimed specific experience of that day. This day you should concentrate on combining two of the elements
TEMPORAL – SPATIAL
TEMPORAL – DYNAMICAL
SPATIAL – DYNAMICAL
and concentrate on triggering a more complex experience of the spectator on the two selected levels.

Friday – CONTRASTS
Work on opposing, contrasting two different experiences on each selected level.

Important notes
We should concentrate on the research of how our activity triggers experiences in the audience. Make a difference on what you do, and what your spectator does.
Help the workshop with your concentration on the goal of the day both in the creation and the observation.

I'll do my best to find helpful solutions.
