Guests visit BCDA as the pioneering creative education institut of contemporary dance in Hungary and as the source/nest of the 50-70% of the artists who create the Hungarian independent contemporary dance community.
Rider: We’ll know how many of them will come to visit us once they will be on the bus accompanied by Lilla Eredics (fellow worker of dunaPArt, former manager of Hodworks, actually working and learning in Switzerland.)
This is what we know, the rest is a bunch of starting point ideas to develop them together.
Acts:
- reception
- presentation of the school
- studio showing of pieces at coming Trafó performance, feed back !!
- question & answer
- farewell
1. one to one reception
One student or teacher or team-member – whoever wants to participate at the event – receives one guest at the street door.
Shake hands, present yourself, remember your guest’s name and call him/her on his/her name. Ask if (s)he wishes to come up by the elevator or by foot.
2. presentation of the school
On your way up explain:
this is Budapest Contemporary Dance Academy, that operates since 2005 as a state acknowledged higher education institution. At that time it was free for 15 students each year, but as the last 10 years the different governments stopped grants to all private institutions, actually every student must pay 1500 € per semester.
The building was a textile paint and print factory from 1785. The studios were built in 1998 when Iván Angelus moved here his Creativ Movement Studio that worked since 1983 as a pioneering studio in contemporary dance in Hungary (and Central- and East-Europe).
Today it has 5 studios, study rooms, library, instrumental music practice rooms, other infrastructure on 1500 square meters.
29 active BA and 6 active MA students speak 15 languages. Half of the students (and teachers) are Hungarian.
All year round or frequently returning teachers teach contemporary, contact, learning strategies, creative strategies, ballet, folk dance, theory, English and Hungarian languages, instrumental music. Returning guest teachers, – ex-Trisha Browm, ex-Rosas, ex-Ultima Vez, ex-Need Company, and others – all active researchers, creators give one-two week workshops among others on partnering, parkour, etc. There are many ex-students in the faculty.
Offer to go to the toilet to the external corridor, and than come to meet in the buffet and have a glass of water. Stay with your guest and talk until everbody arrives.
Iván welcomes everybody and tells in 1 minute what will happen:
3. rehearsals, feed back
We will present a selection of rehearsals pointing to the Trafó performance. The aim is to experience unknown audience, and get feeed back from them.
There will be 4 shows at a time starting at 11.45. and 12.15. It means we can show 8 productions maximum. If less people come, we can present less works and take more time with the guests.
Iván will select the pieces upon applications and the situation.
4. short Q&A
At 12.20 as latest Iván offers an 15-25 minute Q&A session in the Buffet, to say good bye at 12.45 as latest.
Students accompany their guest to the bus if they wish to continue dialog. After their departure we take time (half an hour) to share experiences.
Ok?
Iván
* Students who perform the 1st of December with Éclipse should encourage people to come next day.

There are minimum twice as many of them, active dancers who are not less talented and prepared and were not invited now or yet(!) to dunaPArt.
Meet some of the 29 actual students, age 18- 31, who speak 15 languages at the moment, and come to meet you and dance for you Saturday noon.
Talk to them first and than see in one of the 5 studios 2 of the 8 productions of their actual productions to be presented this December in Trafó.
Numbers? Yes: in the text. Not: on the stage!
Take 15 minutes short Q&A with Iván Angelus founder/rector before you leave.
