BCDA Dance Studies – 2017/2018 – Group B
COURSE OBJECTIVE
To gain and enrich skills for critically observing and analysing the current dance field; familiarising with the most acknowledged choreographers, the available resources, various learning methods of academic/creative writing in accordance to dance, and moreover to be able to adapt (philosophical & socio-political) theories to stage/choreographic practices. To raise awareness and enthusiasm for reading and writing beside the inevitable studio work. To widen the perspectives, and meanwhile to engage in details and in-depth research.
COURSE OUTLINE
Approaching a particular topic* through hybrid academic+artistic methods. Experimental research. Increased studio presence in the second half of the year.
* Topic proposed for the school year of 2017/2018:
TRANS- OR IN-BETWEENNESS
Translation, transcultural, transdisciplinary, transmission, transformation
Deriving from personal discussions, the teacher realised how much the students are intrigued by the fact of their (becoming) mixed identities as foreigners studying in Hungary and encountering with various cultures’ through each other.
What does a hybrid, a composite, a multi-gazed artistic approach mean for them?
How does their personal migration, thus personal history amend the understanding of postcolonial and translational dance theories?
