RITA MATOS

WORKPLAN | 2018 September

• General

For this first semester of my last year at the academy I would practice even more on how to be every time more independent for working out and training my body and for my creations.

To be organize with my time in order to give enough time to each activity: learning and training, digesting new information, taking notes of new information or new ideas for creations, planning my daily, weekly and monthly work in advance, give time alone for myself and good rest.

I would keep working on my physicality and developing the stile I like and wish to keep doing and understanding my own body.

I would give priority developing my physicality, which I consider is my strongest area and the direction I will continue after graduating but I would also give space to develop and find my way of creating.

I would also start updating my website in order to be able to promote myself after graduating.

For the last in my physicality I want to keep researching on how to be ergonomic in every stile and movement I do.

• Social aspects

For my last year I wish to have a better communication and respect to the school crew, especially with Iván in order to have a good working cooperation.

Also I would work more on finding good mature solutions whenever I have a problem with someone instead of avoiding it or refusing it.

I wish to keep the good relations I have with my classmates and students from the other groups.

Keep being a wear on the benefits of the community by keeping clean the common areas and my changing room clean. Try to solve the problems if I can by myself or contact who I should with enough time.

• Getting and interpretation of information

I would work on be more open-minded to receive and accept new information. Trust better on what my teachers tell me and give the chance to try without judging and then give time for me to try for myself and keep what I consider important from the information I am gaining in the school.

• Creativity

This is one of the difficult parts for me. In order to change the blocks I feel when I have to create I think I should trust better on myself and give time for myself to organize and focus my ideas so then I can have a clear idea from where to start to plan a realistic work and rehearsal plan.

I would be also more open to ask for help if needed to teachers or colleagues I trust.

• Ballet

This year would be quite challenging with the new system of changing teacher which mean being more flexible and open of changing stiles.

I think it would be very beneficial for me.

I would keep working on increasing my knowledge and vocabulary in ballet but especially giving reasons to each exercises according to the stile and line I want to continue after graduating.

• Contemporary

For contemporary I am very open on learning new stiles and keep developing my knowledge, vocabulary and physicality.

Keep on cleaning my floor work and how to use what I learn on the floor when I am standing and vice versa.

Work on my coordination especially when I have to do asymmetric movement or different rhythms with different parts of my body.

• Folk

For folk I would keep working on the rhythmically and in the transitions between up beat or down beat or the transitions between different rhythms.

Also how to make the movement more ergonomic for me and more organic the folk movement as well of how to combine the information I get in folk dance for my other classes and dance techniques.

SUMMARY | 2018 December

In this first semester of my first year in this school I felt I learned a lot and received a lot of new information. Not just about dance and movement, but also how to improve as a person. This first semester show me how the school works, the tools I will need for my dance career, and the way I have to go to develop. I also improve my English and the relationship with my colleagues. I need to be more punctual and try to be in the school more earlier.

Ballet:

I have a good ballet technique background, but during this months I hade the opportunity to focused in my posture, the center of my body, my stability, the alignment of my feet and knee and also tried to found the way how to dance ballet with more freedom. I could improve in this aspects and I want to continue this work. I also could improve my level of how to keep the attention during the all class.

Folk:

Folk Dance was something completely new for me. In the beginning was hard to catch the movements and the rhythm. Now I feel I can catch the things more easily and I improved my learning strategies in this subject. I still need to improve a lot on this, in the way to fell more the rhythms and not just copy the movements. I get some knowledge about Folk Dance movements, but I want to get much more. I learned how to enjoy this class, and with the over time, I started to catch the energy and the feeling of this kind of dance.

Contemporary:

It was really useful for me the fact we hade a lot of different teachers and different knowledge. It also make me improve my learning strategies and how to catch the combinations or the exercises more quickly. I also start to go more deeper in search may way of dance more freely.

Individual work:

About individual work I had some problems in focused myself in the all days 90 minutes practice and also in do a regular plan and diary system. In the next semester I will work more hard and find ways to keep myself concentrating and motivating.

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2018 December

Szegedy-Maszák Zsuzsa:

Great class, everyone seems curious and open. Great exchanges of ideas during class, good class discussions, signs of critical thinking on the part of the students. Very happy with the group.

I really enjoy her participation in class discussions, because she is not afraid to voice her opinion. She is also not afraid to ask questions when something does not seem to make sense to her.

Angelus Iván:
General notes to the group:
In this semester I had the chance to meet all of you in the three main territories of our school: 1. sharing new information, 2. developing your creativity, 3. developing your social skills. I feel myself and you successful in point one and two, and I have hard time at point 3. with all of you. This is because of the social environment surrounding us. Solving this difficulty is the task itself. The level of cooperation and sincereness is that makes difference in the common success.

My short evaluations will be strict and related to your development related to school requirements:
I will tick Excellent box at who are developing well, basically in harmony with school guidelines, hopefully will reach their goal to become a professional contemporary dancer.
I will sign Satisfactory/Good at those who could make (much) more in their own sake.
I will sign Failed at those who do not live with their possibilities and should change their attitude in order to become more successful or to those who are on the right way to find their own direction that may be out of the school's profile. It can be considered a success too. Failed may mean you have to work on your trajectory out of school or it may mean to stay in school but work on a higher level.

Personal notes:
Dear Rita! We knew it would be difficult. As far as I see You are still observing things, you haven't started work here yet. I hope you didn't loose your motivation and will merge in every minute, every movement, every task. I hope you will find your own world in movement. Work on that, move much more, anyhow that feels good. Do not worry! Strengthen and stretch your knee, work on keeping it straight. Look for and find tasks. Enjoy free dancing. Think about why is it so difficult for you.

Kováts Tibor:

Kiegyensúlyozottan, motiváltan dolgozol. Elégedett vagyok a munkához való hozzáállásoddal!

General notes to the group:
It is my general note, not only to group A-B, or C but for the whole of the students, that it is a heartwarming how you grew into a good and functioning community. It is great to see you supporting each other.

Personal notes:
You are very fast learning the frame of things, slower to pick up the full inventory. You suffer no physical obstacle, the key is the level of attention for details. Stay hungry, hang in there a little longer even when you think you have it.

Bakó Tamás:
You were active and committed in the classes. I appreciated the attitude and effort you made. You did a very nice progress in the first period.
Your dance has its own logic and history. They provide vocabulary and strong characteristics. And in the beginning it felt like they will limit your development. But something has clicked with the time and I perceived more and more growing understanding. I saw the attempt and process of relating to the material and finding access to its logic.
In the future you will need to investigate the areas of:
Arranging of the body parts and alignment. Forming and articulating of the movements. Orientation in general. Clarity and precision.
Good work!

MENTOR'S SUMMARY | 2018 December

WORKPLAN | 2019 January

In this second semester, I want to arrive in the school more earlier and do a bit more warm up. For my individual work I want to work in straight my knees and work in the alignment of my feets. I want to work every day in the classes I had in the morning. I want to dance more free and give my self small tasks to improvise. I also want to improve in write every day my diary and stay focus and motivated in my individual work every day. I wish I can keep and improve my relation and my cooperation with Ivan.

SUMMARY | 2019 June

II semester: in this second semester I felt that I could enjoy much more the school and the classes, and also I felt that I knew much better what I was doing. In the first semester I felt that I was still trying to understand and get into to the system and rules of the school. One of the biggest example of it was the Iw, because it took time for me to understand what I could work in this time and space. With this I don’t mean that it’s a easy thing for me, but at least I found the way and motivation to do it. Still there are some things which make this work hard: just music in one studio ( which means that it’s always a lot of people in this studio, and I prefer to work in a place with less people); when I’m tiered (I’m still trying to figure out how to have motivation to work in Iw when I’m more tired); and also the fact that I make it after lunch ( I often feel my energies low). Either contemporary or ballet I fell much more free in a way that I can dance and express my self really easily. About the creative projects I also found much more interest and fun to participate and also be the host.

Year: this year was really fast for me, it looks like I started some months ago. If I look back for the creative garden or the beginning of the year, I can see that a lot of things had change, mentally and physically. My background in dance and my previous reality in dance were really different from now. In my previous school I had a different education of dance, which make the things in the beginning of this new journey a bit hard. Finally now I feel that I could let those thing go, and I feel much better and free. I also feel my mind much more open and it helps me to express myself through my body however it’s still hard to express my self thought words, but I feel that this is also better.
I feel that I learn a lot in this school year about myself, about dance and about life. I’m very glad that I came to this school and im facing with so different people (teachers and colleges) and learning from each of them. I love the fact that we have so many different teachers which give me a lot of different information. I wish next year I’m going to keep this good feelings and motivation.

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2019 June

Thimai Nguyen

General notes to the group:

WHILE DANCING
1-Don’t forget to include the head and the sternum in your dancing.
2-Use the momentum of each part of the body to go from one movement to the other.
3-NO NOISE on the floor: The body should melt while going to the floor, and when you run
the weight should be in the front of the foot.
4-Hands, arms long, alive always, reaching out.
5-Legs, ankles and pelvis release fully. FOR REAL!
6-Take care of every transition in what ever you do.
7-TAKE YOUR TIME- ENJOY- PLAY!! Challenge the public and yourself, tease or choose an
angle to approach the public but it should not be mental. You have to jump in the swimming
pool and warm up the water yourself.
8- STOP THINKING. FEEL.
9- Be connected with the other dancer in the room, use and play with there body rhythm, an
intelligent dancer is someone that feels and sees everything. Let go your instinct.

TO BE far away and long. NO SHORT LEGS.

Personal notes:

Nice mover.
Stop looking down the floor, be in your body and be extremely aware of what s going on around you. Don’t dance on your heel but stay light like a boxer! The weight on the front part of the foot. Please work on your centre. While running push the floor with your foot, the back leg far away out and the body slightly diagonal.

General notes to the group:

Group A & B were very receptive to everything I bring to class and every task I proposed for them to do. everybody dedicated and worked hard for the workshop. wonderful to see such enthusiasm.

Personale notes:

Good sence of rhythm and rithmic notation knowledge. eve though Rita got confused in the presentation, did very well during the week

Várnagy Kristóf

General notes to the group:

Dear ppl,

This term, due to holidays, and other scheduling reasons I have had considerably less time with you than during the first semester, so I have less material to work with. However, I wish to reflect on your progress from the first term to the second.

Also, I would like to be transparent about my grading system, and hereby give you an explanation, what means what. So as your teacher I have to grade your work on the following scale: Fail, Satisfactory, Excellent
-fail: you can fail by not attending enough classes, or by not achieving adequate progress
-satisfactory: you are being present, however not sufficiently consistent in your work, or not fully embodying yet the concept of the class
-excellent: you can score excellent if your process is clearly seen in your work

Personale notes:

I really appreciate how you opened up and gave trust to the work, and as a result of that you are now getting there, just have more patience for the process.

Kováts Tibor

General notes to the group:

Urvi Vora:

Articulate and interesting ideas, put forth in a brave manner. I especially appreciate the risks you take when you make the statements you do. We are constantly asking what it might mean to create art at all, and you take it head on.

What I found myself searching for, was an argument – how did you come to these conclusions? What is the thread that keep you ideas together? It would be good for you to imagine that someone else needs to answer the same question and arrive at the same conclusion as you – how would you help them? What do they need to know to be able to reach the same conclusion? Further, on a more advanced level, what do they need to know to argue back or disagree?

As for the interesting points you make, I would ask you to like at exactly how strong these claims should be. For example, you make grand and bold statements about how humans live their modern lives. If this is not a largely known phenomenon, you are required to justify each of them. What if my experience of life is very different from yours? What will contemporary dance give me then?

You make some very brave propositions and I would encourage you to commit to them and defend them – coming to newer and stronger realisations!

Angelus Iván

Give more, get more. Work on what you are good in, have successes, + add less developed qualities. Follow finding helpers, partners, you need them. Work more independently, at the end you will be on the stage alone. You should become a brilliant dancer, do not accept less. Culture can develop your horizon.

WORKPLAN | 2019 September

Technical work plan:

Find my own way how to keep motivated to do every day 90 minutes IW:
-make a clear plan every day and follow the plan;
-Make it playfulness and enjoyable;
-Do not stay always in the same studio, avoiding routines;
-Dance free every day.

During classes work on my presence and my face, in a meaning that I’m gonna triy to be more natural possible.

Be more present in body and mind:
Be in the classes or rehearsals 100%, having more concentration what’s happening around me, all the instructions and what am I doing.

Work on strengthening my knees:
Im gonna ask help to my teachers for get to know which muscles should I strengthen and which ones should I stretch, and also some kind of exercises.

Creative work plan:

Next year I would like to explore different possibilities that I can have. Be in different roles, work alone or with people, make research and productions. I want to make as much creative projects as possible.

SUMMARY | 2019 December

This semester was completely different for me comparing to last year. We had much less “workshop’s” situations and more fixed classes. It was actually good to work more deep with each of the teacher and also to have the experience to work in the same materials for a long time in my IW work.
This sistem put me in a different situation which I could take a lot of different experiences.
One of the biggest challenge I had this semester was to keep motivated inside of the routine (classes and IW) and live in such a small community.
I was late / missed more times then I would like to do, specially in the end of the period.
Besides that I believe I worked in the classes and in my IW as much as I could.

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2019 December

Angelus Iván

General notes to the group:

Dear Students!

The goal of the regular written feed back is to help both teachers and students to get a different perspective on your daily work, to get a wider time frame on your development including where you come from and where you go to. The feed back has three parts: general notes to the group, individual feed back and assessment.

You may not know the table that compares and explains different assessment systems we have shared with your teachers as well:
https://tanc.org.hu/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/grading-system-BCDA.pdf

Concerning the work we have realized together this semester I think that it was efficient by it's regularity, discipline, sincerity. You know yourself how deeply, but I can tell in general you seemed to follow the values and guidelines offered by the school. Some of you were more active others less but nobody ignored and went against these possibilities.
This fact was reflected in your successful presence you performed in the three pieces presented in Trafó, where ALL the participants of each dance could show their maximum, and it's level was pretty high in general.

Congratulations to You, and thanks to your teachers!
Iván

Personale notes:

I hope this time in Hungary contributed to get closer to yourself, to find a more unified, more comprehensive way of existing day by day, that will need less self-limiting discipline, less compliance constraint, more simple orientation, more self confidence and will free up lots of energy for your professional and daily life.
Iván

Várnagy Kristóf

General notes to the group:

I am delighted with the work of the class, both on the individual and on the group level. This first half of the year has been characterized by focused, intelligent work. You all had different struggles. Some, on the physical, some on the mental&spiritual plane. But I appreciate your hard work and resilience, how you faced your problems and insisted on solving them. Therefore, I am going to award the whole class with excellent grades. Each one of you deserved it, but for different reasons: some for better technique, some for the systematic, consistent, persistence work. I am giving you all the trust, that it will be a stepping stone into the second half of the year, and that you keep up the spirit for the second part of the season. Stay focused on your goals, stay sharp.

Personale notes:

I really appreciate your lines and length in your movements. However, it would help if you found curves as well in your exercise. Soften up, lose the borders between steps, create a melody.

Bakó Tamás

You were active and committed in the classes.
I appreciated the attitude and effort you made. Your dance has its own logic and history. They provide vocabulary and strong characteristics. And in the beginning it felt like they will limit your development. But something has clicked with time and I perceived more and more growing understanding. I saw the attempt and process of relating to the material and finding access to its logic.
In the future you will need to investigate the areas of:
Arranging of the body parts and alignment.
Forming and articulating of the movements.
Orientation in general.
Clarity and precision.
Good work!

WORKPLAN | 2020 January

In the second semester I want to move more, to dance more and to enjoy more.
I want to prepare my body and my mind for the next year auditions, and I want to take more about myself, avoiding being sick or injured.

SUMMARY | 2020 June

II Semester: The second semester was an irregular one which brought the opportunity of new and different experiences. In the first months I had the opportunity to go out of my comfort zone because of the classes with Szabó Réka and Fulop László, where I had plenty of tasks in which I had to speak and put myself in a situation which I was never before. I could let go my fears and shadows and open my boundaries with that task, which was a self goal achievement for me. The Virus situation was actually a really nice experience for me. In the beginning I have to admit that it wasn’t easy, I felt lost and didn’t really know how to react to that. But after I could just find my own tempo, routine, try new things, have time to myself, and work by my own. I did improvise a lot, in different environments which gave me different inspirations. I found new ways to move, but more important to express. It was also really interesting experience for me to make one minute video per week, because I could explore a bit this virtual dance world, and also because I had to make a small creation every week. I actually wish to keep going with this one minute video during my summer holidays. I think I could develop my communication skills, but not much my responsibility ones, especially concerning work diary.

Year: In my first year I had much more difficulties. It was a big change for me to move to Budapest, because everything is so different from my country, even the dance field. This year was much better for me in the way I was more use to the country, to the people and to the systems, and because of that I could enjoy it more and be more focus on me and not so much on what was around me. I feel I could develop in a cultural way and physical way, and I felt and still felling that I’m getting more and more close to myself, since I started this school until now. This school gives me the feeling that I want more and more, maybe because each time someone comes to teach us, I feel that that person have something new to give, and I always realize that I have so much to learn , with everybody. I wish to have performed more, and I’m still sorry about what happened last December in Trafó, but everything is a lesson and we can always take something good out of it. I appreciate the atmosphere that we could build inside the group, even with all the struggles and problems, I felt that we were a community and we worked pretty well together.

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2020 June

Farkas Zoltán

General notes to the group:

Minden egyes tanulónál a fegyelem, az akarás, odaadás, odafigyelés van. Ezzel nem kellett foglalkozni. Ennek eredményeképpen a tanult táncok ritmusában, stílusában, egységében, tánc típusában érthetőek, helyén vannak és stílusosan vannak eltáncolva. Mindenki a saját szintjének megfelelően teljesít (maximálisan). Ehhez ők is kellettek.

General notes to the group:

Dear Students! I think your group as a group could build up itself and you reached a very high level of cooperation by the end of the year: You have learned a lot from each other, You helped each other, You accepted and supported each other. The life was calm and moderated, even tempered. That is good for the calm development, accumulation. you did it and learned from it. The same time I think that you haven't gone really close to each other, didn't lived big cathartic moments together, you tolerated and respected each other so much that you were allowed to do anything, may be nobody would warn the other if anything happened. May be I am wrong and it happened time to time, just I remained out of those exciting, red-hot flaming situations, so valuable for an artist. May be you had them somewhere else and not in the school. The life in school was free from the active ignorance of the rules of cooperation, and active adversary actions. I gave more space and time to mistakes and omissions, misunderstandings, and it was very much up to you if you lived with certain possibilities or you missed to profit from them. I think it was a good strategy. Who and when wanted, to do something could learn from it, and who didn't want or couldn't was allowed to loose that possibilitiy. It's very good to know that (almost) all of you seem to find a good solution for the next year, I think we could encourage and help you. With the 7 of you we have to speak about the next year's common tasks and possibilities. I will be strict about my evaluations.I think you ALL developed a LOT, and you ALL can SUCCESSFULLY further develop. When I evaluate your development satisfactory or excellent I make a difference of how far you could get if you did everything possible. Especially with last year students I also wished to relate your actual state to an external general level of a beginner professional dancer.

Personale notes:

As all of us, just as You, have strong and weak sides as well. Not all of us know them as you do already! Do not hesitate to work on both. More in depth, more in time more in efficiency, more in delicacy. Strengths to reach excellence, weaknesses to balance yourself, to avoid later havaria. Have fun and success.

Mikó Dávid

General notes to the group:

This special period was a great opportunity to develop your own working methods. As you can see, circumstances can change quickly, so it is worthwhile to create a system in which your professional life can remain constant. The individual work you further develop and extend into other areas of your life will make you independent of world conditions. Thats the true power and freedom when you draw your path with your own hands … and it's persistent, continuous, never-ending work. Enjoy the flow!

Personale notes:

Physically ready for the path.

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2020 December

Farkas Zoltán

General notes to the group:

Mindhárom lánnyal nagyon meg vagyok elégedve. Úgy szakmailag, mint emberileg. Batyu

Várnagy Kristóf

You have matured a lot. Your movements got simplified. It feels that you just started to lose your "previous skin". It's a good thing. Don't be afraid to "forget your previous education", your body will remain trained anyway. I would say give more license to yourself to rediscover every movement, every step as if you were doing them for the first time.

Bakó Tamás

Dear Rita!

This is a very unusual period of time. Since almost a year we have to reinvent all the things we used to do and newly understand the things we thought we knew. Despite the difficult circumstances these thoughts are funnily close to some of the ideas we address in our school. Creativity, (re)adapting, (re)inventing are some of the skills we practice to shape our own art but they also help us to go through hard times. And another thought. The social element is essential to dance but now more than ever we have a great possibilty for individual practicing.

In the last semester you participated with strong commitment accepting that this year will be an individual journey more than usual. I think what happens now it's good for you. Independence, autonomy is an ability your dance needs the most right now. You moved forward on all the territories of alignment awareness, orientation, articulation and clarity. We named and explored them in the first years and I perceive a shift. Lot of information is present in your body by now. What could be the next step is the integration of all these knowledges. That needs a very own investment, investigation and elaboration. I guess we are in the right time for it. You are moving forward. Process of embodiment comes from cycles of training, practice, working with what we know, working with the unknown, gaining and harvesting, letting go and relearn.

Keep on working!

and

Thank you for the work!
