MEGGIE BLANKSCHYN
WORKPLAN | 2018 September
My work plan for the first semester at BCDA starts with very basic ideas as everything has to be build up new.
To guarentee my general and mental health I need a safe space called home to charge my batteries and find moments of silence, resting and recovering.
I want to serve myself good, fresh food and sleep at least seven hours per night.
I will work on friendships and relationships inside the school as well as outside and take time to disvocer unknown places around the city.
I will force myself to sit in the garden, a park or forest at least once per week and read a book.
I want to find a mostly comfortable rhythm between school and private life.
I will keep my skills in organisation and the will to cooperate with others and the given tasks.
I definitely want to work on my punctuality and don‘t come late to classes.
My motor health needs to be improved a lot. This includes Ballet, Folk dance as well as Contemporary techniques.
Generally, my muscular status is in a good condition but I have to work on my centre (Psoas, Abdominals) to minimize the arch in my lower back and improve my alignment.
Still, I want to do Yoga workouts two times per week to strengthen the whole body and work on breathing and meditation excersises.
In Ballet my focus will be on the general internalization of the movement principles, position of the head, pirouette, small and big jumps.
I want to maintain and if possible, improve my range of articulation, especially the split in second position.
In every case I must work on my coordination and quick movement/sequence learning!
To keep my motivation and concentration I have to work intensively during the Individual Work times and inspire myself constantly. I have to work on the daily material and ejnoy the free dancing and improvising as much as possible.
To gain a better public presence I need to become more comfortable with stage situations and perform with more trust and self-confidence.
I have to learn how to be my own teacher, give tasks and challenge myself in a satisfying way.
In the first period I will participate in a very physical project hosted by Hanna. („My role in the project will be to participate actively, be alert to Hanna‘s improvisation tasks and allow myself to go beyond of what I think are my physical limitations but is often related to the limitation of thoughts and the fear of risks. After each impro session I will gather some of the experienced materials to work on them later or use them in the frame of a movement combination.
I will focus on my body‘s strength, its ability to give and receive a lot of power while mainly working with hands and core and the support of the floor. I will use my body as material that unites many elements at the same time, I will learn from the other bodies and share what I‘ve already got.“)
In the second period I am looking forward to host a project dealing with the influence of spoken words on dancing. I want to work with theatrical excersises as well as improvisation and different types of story/secret telling. A working title could be „What you‘ve told me…“
At that time I will have the chance to gain more knowledge and experience in composing my ideas on stage while either being part of it or only directing the process.
In every field I wish to learn, grow, achieve and start again. I want to keep my heart, eyes, ears open, reflect, find creative solutions and stay honest, true, natural.
SUMMARY | 2018 December
Home
I‘ve found a beautiful home, a safe, calm and relaxing place to recover.
Health
All over, I took good care of sleeping enough and eating properly and nourishing.
In the first period I had more problems with a sinus infection, in the second period I missed one school day because of fever. By the end of the second period I feel fresh and clean even though my body is tired from the last weeks‘ work.
Relationships
I invested mainly in friendships among BCDA students and have found some closer friends here.
Still, I‘m aiming to reach out and meet people from other backgrounds and with other interests than dance.
Outdoor
I was very happy to go for long hiking tours in the Buda mountains almost every sunday and spend some time biking, dancing or relaxing on Margit island as well as discovering a bit more of the city.
Organization
I‘m a strong believer in daily rituals and routines, though in the first period it took some time for me to understand the school‘s structures and find individual solutions.
I found myself struggling between school and life obligations and had to discover how to balance the two of them.
The second period was in many cases ‚easier‘ – thanks to the experiences from the first period, I could prepare myself better, clear out my goals, work more efficently.
Individual Work
I started the semester without a clear plan and tried different structures in the first period which sometimes worked, sometimes not.
Sharing the IW experinces with others helped me a lot to develop a satisfying, efficient system for my own Individual Work time. Due to the structure I have found more time to review materials from the classes, work on my weaknesses and have a better overview of what and how I work on.
I feel that this safety in the structure enables me to enjoy, practice and grow more.
Work out
I started to work on a stronger centre but it still needs to be improved a lot.
I didn‘t do the two times per week Yoga workouts but integrated some of the strengthening exercises in my daily practice to connect to my breath and gain global stability.
Ballet
I‘ve found a better understanding of the principles yet I miss the right execution in coordination of head, arms and legs sometimes.
Exercises at the bar feel safer, still I need to work a lot on engaging my centre to gain more freedom, precision and musicality in the leg work.
Many times I lost the good alignment set up from the bar when it came to centre or diagonals.
Petit allegro jumps are still a big challenge for me as well as pirouettes and clearity in focus of the eyes.
Contemporary
I improved in catching choreographies, still need to work on precision and trust in my (body) knowledge as well as finding the essence or purity instead of reproducing beautiful movements.
Arm-leg/left-right and spacial coordination got better but still causes confusion sometimes.
Folk
It was very difficult in the beginning and still is very challenging in all aspects of quick learning, musicality, coordination. But I am enjoying it and dancing with Group B and C helped me to earn a better understanding of the ‚folk feeling‘.
Projects
My first individual research project was succesful in order to find connections in my body and practice a multi-layered dance but already I felt that I would rather like to share my ideas with someone.
That is why I felt more inspired, motivated and creative when working with Myrtille in the second period. Even though there are some questions remained open, we could build up a strong relation that can lead us to further projects in the upcoming periods.
I was happy to find her trust and support in me and my ideas while at the same time being confronted with the difficult task of directing and dancing in the piece.
Hanna‘s research project made me being physical which I enjoyed a lot but stayed somehow on the surface.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2018 December
Szegedy-Maszák Zsuzsa:
Great class, everyone seems curious and open. Great exchanges of ideas during class, good class discussions, signs of critical thinking on the part of the students. Very happy with the group.
She clearly has some knowledge about art and art history. Very good class participation. She shares her ideas and opinions well in a manner that helps others open up.
Angelus Iván:
General notes to the group:
In this semester I had the chance to meet all of you in the three main territories of our school: 1. sharing new information, 2. developing your creativity, 3. developing your social skills. I feel myself and you successful in point one and two, and I have hard time at point 3. with all of you. This is because of the social environment surrounding us. Solving this difficulty is the task itself. The level of cooperation and sincereness is that makes difference in the common success.
My short evaluations will be strict and related to your development related to school requirements:
I will tick Excellent box at who are developing well, basically in harmony with school guidelines, hopefully will reach their goal to become a professional contemporary dancer.
I will sign Satisfactory/Good at those who could make (much) more in their own sake.
I will sign Failed at those who do not live with their possibilities and should change their attitude in order to become more successful or to those who are on the right way to find their own direction that may be out of the school's profile. It can be considered a success too. Failed may mean you have to work on your trajectory out of school or it may mean to stay in school but work on a higher level.
Personal notes:
Dear Meggie! I see you on the beginning of a long route that needs much more work, much more precision, much more curiosity, much more cultural circumspection, even more – or more essential – daily physical presence. Come out of being good. Go beyond the surface, go for much more details in everything: relations, movements, methods, yourself, others. Be more curious. Less opinions, more sensations, observations! No hurry – you have time! You do have everything to become a good dancer, concentrate on what dance can give you, learn to listen your body.
Ne a gyakorlatok sorrendje legyen a fontos, hanem a mozdulatok minőségi kivitelezése. Sok sikert hozzá a következő félévben!
Várnagy Kristóf:
General notes to the group:
It is my general note, not only to group A-B, or C but for the whole of the students, that it is a heartwarming how you grew into a good and functioning community. It is great to see you supporting each other.
Personal notes:
Whenever we break down a movement, you are good at every part of it. However, when we get into its complexity, it tends to fall apart. It seems to me you should revisit your system because you have all the elements in place, and yet they just don`t always add up.
Urvi Vora:
General notes to the group:
After my brief, intensive interaction with everyone, I have very much enjoyed reading the diverse essays from all of you – very different approaches, levels and processes. My feedback is focussed on your essay and I hope it helps you think of how to push it forward from here as there is always much more to do.
Good luck with all your future plans and upcoming work in the school! It was wonderful to see all your thoughts turn into something on paper!
Personal notes:
Very articulate and thoughtful essay on the understanding of improvisation and its nuances! I really enjoyed how you picked up the details of improvisation that get lost in the rhetoric around it. The essay is clear, lucid and well-argued, but it could be sharper with a more structured approach.
Definitely think about how to divide your essay into sections and sub-sections to make it easier for the reader to read. It could be made more organised by recognising the different points you making and making them explicit and separate.
Very interesting way to use ‘performance at the rehearsal’ – towards the end you talk more about novelty. It would be good to introduce it earlier as it alludes to the tendency of expecting new discoveries every time through improvisation. Further, there is no immediate need to bring the connection to everyday life in this essay. You have an argument otherwise. If you do bring it up, you need to go deeper into why you are doing so and here you only brush upon it.
Lastly, do you consider dance/movement to be the same as language? Isn’t language focused around communication? Do you consider dance to primarily be communication?
Bakó Tamás:
You look motivated and dedicated about learning and training.
You made lot of effort to receive the logic of the work. The material is a bit unfamiliar to you yet but gradually you gained some clues and made progress. You are getting closer. It feels that you are on a good way.
For the future: Coordination, relationships and arranging of the body parts, differentiating the sides, orientations in space has to be further investigated. Structure and alignment needs more understanding and support.
Carry on!

SUMMARY | 2019 June
I started the second semester being on the lowest point of my motivation and trust.
I was doubting myself a lot and devalued my practice. It was hard for me to accept failing as part of the learning process and turned to be stuck in dissatisfaction and grudge.
However, it was a very good experience in that time to work with Gaja who created a solo material for me. We worked a lot on different mind sets inside the movements and that opened up my perception of everything. I could perform the solo successfully, in the meaning, that I achieved a certain performative presence that I was lacking for very long.
The period afterwards was characterizeed by the process of preparing for #8. The teaching and learning method of #8 helped me to focus on precision and clear articulation of movement materials. In addition, I enjoyed the challenge of learning the others' sequences. It made clear that 16 counts and how they are executed can say a lot about a person. However, I felt not prepared at all when going to MU theatre. Spending a lot of time there and having the opportunity to experience all the background work of a performance helped me to become comfortable with the thought of performing #8. By the time of the public showings I could clearly feel a change of how I approach being a performer and could finally look forward to be on stage.
I finished the period dancing in several outdoor rehearsals/performances as part of Justine's site-specific thesis project.
The act of dancing in public spaces was the first time for me and became an interesting research on how differently we adapted to the environment and how the dance affected the people. I felt how important it is to bring the studio work out of the school – to a theatre or any other space where it can be shared with an audience.
Finally, theTrafó performance. I was rejecting the idea of doing a solo again, though I knew that I would need the experience of being part of the piece (Selfportraits 24) to progress and grow further. It was the best and worst experience at the same time but yes, I am very grateful to have done it.
Going through the phases of skepticism, not caring, enjoying, being bored, investing and letting go and generally having the chance to perform on a big stage was great! Many things about how I practice and how I can always rely on my strengths even though I'm struggling with my weaknesses became clearer.
All desperation from beginning of the 2nd semester could relieve and transform into a mind set of true acceptance, trust, peace. I understood that it's about improving, not impressing. I'm always working – but it has never been so effortless. I'm still having a lot of questions about where exactly do I want to go with my dance but for now, it seems like I have found my place. And I'm sure this all will change again, as I'm changing, school is changing, life keeps going.
What I need is this playfulness, openness and trust in the knowledge I already have.
My body can do a lot of things. My mind has to follow this quick development.
I believe that all the difficulties I'm having with pirouettes or certain coordinations are mostly not happening because I am not fully committed yet. With patience and persistence I wish to reach this full commitment on stage but especially in my daily practice next year.
All in all, the first year was a challenge. I was facing many doubts, felt lost or restless. It took some time until I could find strategies to deal with it. So, here I am, on my way – I love it.

Thimai Nguyen
General notes to the group:
WHILE DANCING
1-Don’t forget to include the head and the sternum in your dancing.
2-Use the momentum of each part of the body to go from one movement to the other.
3-NO NOISE on the floor: The body should melt while going to the floor, and when you run
the weight should be in the front of the foot.
4-Hands, arms long, alive always, reaching out.
5-Legs, ankles and pelvis release fully. FOR REAL!
6-Take care of every transition in what ever you do.
7-TAKE YOUR TIME- ENJOY- PLAY!! Challenge the public and yourself, tease or choose an
angle to approach the public but it should not be mental. You have to jump in the swimming
pool and warm up the water yourself.
8- STOP THINKING. FEEL.
9- Be connected with the other dancer in the room, use and play with there body rhythm, an
intelligent dancer is someone that feels and sees everything. Let go your instinct.
10-RUNING: Never on your heels, the body should be in a diagonal, and the leg behind HAS
TO BE far away and long. NO SHORT LEGS.

General notes to the group:
Group A & B were very receptive to everything I bring to class and every task I proposed for them to do. everybody dedicated and worked hard for the workshop. wonderful to see such enthusiasm.
Personale notes:
didn't come to the presentation, but worked hard during the week

General notes to the group:
Dear ppl,
This term, due to holidays, and other scheduling reasons I have had considerably less time with you than during the first semester, so I have less material to work with. However, I wish to reflect on your progress from the first term to the second.
Also, I would like to be transparent about my grading system, and hereby give you an explanation, what means what. So as your teacher I have to grade your work on the following scale: Fail, Satisfactory, Excellent
-fail: you can fail by not attending enough classes, or by not achieving adequate progress
-satisfactory: you are being present, however not sufficiently consistent in your work, or not fully embodying yet the concept of the class
-excellent: you can score excellent if your process is clearly seen in your work
Personale notes:
This second semester had its slope, but you came out of it amazingly, so for that, you have earned my respect. It is now time to get back and indulge yourself with work and inquiries. I am very positively looking forward to the next year!

Personale notes:
Unknown and enigmatic are not the same thing. Make yourself transparent for yourself, for your teachers, for your mates, for your audience. You work on that, but not always, and mostly less than possible. I wish the next year will be a huge step for you. You can do it investing enough (much more) freedom and energy.
WORKPLAN | 2019 September
Technical work plan:
Generally, this year I’m going to deepen the principles of stability, persistence, dynamics, versatility. My technical approach will cover the better understanding of my body’s structure, the centered and clear posture from where I can reach out and support myself in space and active dancing. This includes the use of the upper body in out-of-vertical situations, coordination in the air (jump variations) and the soft but strong connection to the floor. In terms of dynamics I want to find more versatility through working on extreme dualistic dynamics, smaller divisions/ fragments of dynamics and continuous transitions from one to another dynamic. I will try to develop these ideas through everyday improvisation sessions and working with fixed movement materials (from classes). I am looking for a state and presence where my body serves as a surface to project on inner and outer processes.
Similar principles – centeredness, groundedness, vitality – should guide me in questions of mental health and psychological stability.
Creative work plan:
Throughout the summer I gathered several ideas that come into play for my creative work plan.
I would like to find methods how to go really deep into a research work, formulate goals, preparing tasks that serve the process in a clear direction.
Plus, working on dramaturgy, placements of happenings in space, use of music, light, audience.
Finding a clear artistic voice.
I am still interested in the research of dancing with a stick. I would also like to host a bigger project that deals with movement and singing (simple notes) in (dis)harmony. I would like to work with students I haven’t worked with yet and for pedagogical reasons: create a solo for myself.
SUMMARY | 2019 December
Technical development:
I am finding more stability and clearity in guiding my body through space.
Out-of-vertical situations, turns, coordination in space have become safer and easier to access.
Yet I could experience myself needing a lot of time to understand and embody certain movement dynamics, rhythms and coordinations. Every day practice, repitition and patience helped to find solutions and go through the state of uncertainty.
As I spent a lot of time with the global unterstanding of the movements, I invested less in the details and qualities which could only come through by the intense practice during the performance preparation.
It is time to find a focused way of learning and practicing that covers the global as well as the local depth and precision.
I am still facing difficulties in connecting the many directions in the body and bringing the same fulness to a given form or shape as when dancing freely.
State of mind and body capability did not come together in many cases and I need to invest more in the wholeness of my presence.
All teachers were great support in providing a foundation from where I can evolve and push further.
Creative work:
I do not consider this semester being creative in terms of producing own pieces.
I was definitely lacking my personal creative vision and was not resilient enough to improve my ideas.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2019 December
Angelus Iván
General notes to the group:
Dear Students!
The goal of the regular written feed back is to help both teachers and students to get a different perspective on your daily work, to get a wider time frame on your development including where you come from and where you go to. The feed back has three parts: general notes to the group, individual feed back and assessment.
You may not know the table that compares and explains different assessment systems we have shared with your teachers as well:
https://tanc.org.hu/wp/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/grading-system-BCDA.pdf
Concerning the work we have realized together this semester I think that it was efficient by it's regularity, discipline, sincerity. You know yourself how deeply, but I can tell in general you seemed to follow the values and guidelines offered by the school. Some of you were more active others less but nobody ignored and went against these possibilities.
This fact was reflected in your successful presence you performed in the three pieces presented in Trafó, where ALL the participants of each dance could show their maximum, and it's level was pretty high in general.
Congratulations to You, and thanks to your teachers!
Iván
Personale notes:
Dear Meggie! Your nice, fragile presence still lacks the mental, spiritual, physical strength, expressive power. A still much more ambitious daily training, may be some added running, swimming, cultural openness can create the base of that, that can you give you the necessary self confidence. Especially if you understand why are you doing all these efforts.
Iván
Várnagy Kristóf
General notes to the group:
I am delighted with the work of the class, both on the individual and on the group level. This first half of the year has been characterized by focused, intelligent work. You all had different struggles. Some, on the physical, some on the mental&spiritual plane. But I appreciate your hard work and resilience, how you faced your problems and insisted on solving them. Therefore, I am going to award the whole class with excellent grades. Each one of you deserved it, but for different reasons: some for better technique, some for the systematic, consistent, persistence work. I am giving you all the trust, that it will be a stepping stone into the second half of the year, and that you keep up the spirit for the second part of the season. Stay focused on your goals, stay sharp.
Personale notes:
Significant improvement in almost every aspect of your technique, however still, your week point is the mobility in your lower back. It is now only present when you are getting tired, but it is too easy to get injured there. So make that your priority, especially when you feel that you are low in energy.
Bakó Tamás
You look motivated and dedicated about learning and training. You made lot of effort to receive the logic of the work. By now the material of the class is more familiar to you. I perceive more and more stability and trust in the organisation of the movements and posture. Your practice includes more control and flow.
For the future: Coordination, relationships and arranging of the body parts, differentiating the sides, orientations in space has to be further investigated. Structure and alignment needs more understanding in order to support continuity and flow.
Good work!
MENTOR'S SUMMARY | 2020 January
Kedves Meggie! Légy türelmes magaddal, merd megosztani a belső világodat, értékeidet másokkal :-)Boldog új évet kívánok Neked!Jó munkát!Üdvözlettel,Drávucz Petra

SUMMARY | 2020 June
I have come to be a dancer.
I have come to value my strengths as a hard working, reliable and physical capable human being, emerging to express myself in more and more versatile and virtouso ways.
Practice, the habit of practice and the way I practice create identity. And I become what I pay attention to.
I am aware that I haven‘t found yet a strong artistic voice inside my physical work and I can accept it. By allowing myself to take time I am sill aiming for something bigger in order to let change happen. Fighting for and with my creativity simply leads nowhere, I need an open conversation, negotiation.
I am aware of where I seem easy now and this trust provides the foundation to build on and grow out of my self-image that I project to the world.
I want to be a window, open yet protective, containing and absorbing, strong like its frame, fragile like its glass, I wrote in Krisztina‘s letter.
I have come to listen. I know that if I could have done things better, I would have done it. This is how far I got and I am fully content about it. I am not neglecting that there are many things
I am lacking – in fact there will always be things that are not (yet) there, it just seems a much healthier and productive way to shift perspective. And yes, I‘ve already known about it but it is different to know it and to live it.
Knowing a dance and dancing a dance are two different worlds. Look at my body and see how I‘ve found more clarity on many levels.
Clearer mind and thoughts, manifested in a more opened body. Stronger core and back, greater balance, also upside down.
Clearer directions in life and where to go, what to do with my dance.
Next steps: La Manufacture, thesis writing, integration in the French speaking dance community.
I am aiming to deepen the already established work partnership with Shai Faran and Martin Kilvady, who will both be my teachers next year.
There is not much more to say – it all is and will always be a process – I am curious, persistent and full of pleasure. I know that I am finding my way.

General notes to the group:
Minden egyes tanulónál a fegyelem, az akarás, odaadás, odafigyelés van. Ezzel nem kellett foglalkozni. Ennek eredményeképpen a tanult táncok ritmusában, stílusában, egységében, tánc típusában érthetőek, helyén vannak és stílusosan vannak eltáncolva. Mindenki a saját szintjének megfelelően teljesít (maximálisan). Ehhez ők is kellettek.

General notes to the group:
Dear Students! I think your group as a group could build up itself and you reached a very high level of cooperation by the end of the year: You have learned a lot from each other, You helped each other, You accepted and supported each other. The life was calm and moderated, even tempered. That is good for the calm development, accumulation. you did it and learned from it. The same time I think that you haven't gone really close to each other, didn't lived big cathartic moments together, you tolerated and respected each other so much that you were allowed to do anything, may be nobody would warn the other if anything happened. May be I am wrong and it happened time to time, just I remained out of those exciting, red-hot flaming situations, so valuable for an artist. May be you had them somewhere else and not in the school. The life in school was free from the active ignorance of the rules of cooperation, and active adversary actions. I gave more space and time to mistakes and omissions, misunderstandings, and it was very much up to you if you lived with certain possibilities or you missed to profit from them. I think it was a good strategy. Who and when wanted, to do something could learn from it, and who didn't want or couldn't was allowed to loose that possibilitiy. It's very good to know that (almost) all of you seem to find a good solution for the next year, I think we could encourage and help you. With the 7 of you we have to speak about the next year's common tasks and possibilities. I will be strict about my evaluations.I think you ALL developed a LOT, and you ALL can SUCCESSFULLY further develop. When I evaluate your development satisfactory or excellent I make a difference of how far you could get if you did everything possible. Especially with last year students I also wished to relate your actual state to an external general level of a beginner professional dancer.
Personale notes:
Meggie! you did a great job in the second year. You have the right goals, right questions, right methods: now you have to reach these goals daily, answer these questions again and again, use fully and develop constantly the method. Put together what you have and add, add, add … Find the right partners

General notes to the group:
This special period was a great opportunity to develop your own working methods. As you can see, circumstances can change quickly, so it is worthwhile to create a system in which your professional life can remain constant. The individual work you further develop and extend into other areas of your life will make you independent of world conditions. Thats the true power and freedom when you draw your path with your own hands … and it's persistent, continuous, never-ending work. Enjoy the flow!
Personale notes:
Clear moements. Physically ready for the path.
