SUMMARY | 2017 December
problems:
I feel uncomfortable with my body, I have menstrual problems, I have focus and time issue, I am afraid of the winter, I don't speak hungarian, I procrastinate my tasks, I can only create during night time, sometimes I eat badly, I don't find my way back to my own choreographic phrases, I can't play musical instruments.
– (about feeling uncomfortable, I still have difficulties , some days worse, some days better . I think I am finding more space inside my body, and also feeling more strong and structured ; in Folk classes i am finding more naturality and joy, I am understanding more easily the steps and rhythm; In Ballet, I feel more structured, also understanding the sequences on the bar is coming more organic. In the center is still very hard, and I feel very dizzy and sometimes with low pression, but I am feeling more resistance each time. On Individual working I also feel much more resistance and focus and things to do, that in the beginning of the year I was feeling it was to long, now I always need more time than the one hour and half and feel a lot of lost when I can not do it.
I still run against time and am afraid of winter( but more confident ); I can pretend I speak Hungarian and I really like to learn it; I still procrastine my tasks, is still easier to create on night time, but at least my night is being earlier so is not interfering that much my sleep time; About choreographies I am finding more connection between moving and thinking so it’s being easier to come back, I also learning strategies, from me and from my colleagues; At the beginning of playing piano I was very surprised how was possible, now that I am going more deep on structure I am having a lot of difficulty.
In all aspects I still have a lot to work, but I am finding my way, and I am quite positive about it, feel I need to put more input but also feel I am more capable of it )

TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2017 December
Angelus Iván:
Dear Group A members!
In general I can tell you that you – the group as a unit – seem to have built up a good balance of keeping your individual development in the centre and the same time, learning how to know more abut each other and how to accept each other. Sometimes it will be good to be more independent and proactive to encourage each other a bit more to organize, accept and focus on open possibilities, potentials, obligations, time frames, deadlines, etc. If the group is more efficient, everybody's own efforts will be more efficient. (And vice-versa.)
Anyway the time – four months or more – of assimilation, integration should have been finished. Once you know and understand the local processes, methods you should concentrate on the successful use of them in order to reach your own goals, why you joined BCDA. This process will be complete when you finish the first year, a full study cycle.
Iván
Dear Nina!
Work on your body. Make it stronger. So the voice of your body will be stronger to, it will be easier to listen it. Organize your life, your time, your practice. If you learn to understand and, accept and follow your teacher's advices, you will understand, accept and be able to follow your own wishes. Hope you will profit of your stay here as much as possible.

Szegedy-Maszák Zsuzsanna:
Enthusiastic and curious group, lots of questions, comments and input. Some are very knowledgeable on art, others seem to have some difficulty relating to some of the subject matter (biblical, mythological and historical narratives). Class discussions are sometimes so lively that we run out of time and are unable to finish the material I wanted to cover during the given class period. The atmosphere is mostly upbeat, although I understand that sometimes after several hours of physical workout it is hard to suddenly sit down in a dark room and listen to a lecture. Overall I have the impression that most of the students would rather have more visits to exhibitions.
She is curious and likes to ask questions, some of which are great class discussion starters.
Tijen Lawton:
Unity of the body as a whole, as a personality, that needs to be further investigated and nourished by finding strength though understanding that your body working on the floor and your body standing and moving in space are the same, organising your body as a surface, as a core and in it’s extremities .A lot of the work is in analysis of detail and risk taking.Continue work on connectivity throughout the body, using both the body as a whole as well as in extreme detail to be able to elaborate with further elements and dynamics.
The body sometimes looses its physical energy and dynamic when the mind takes over too much. Do not loose this thinking with the mind, but try and work together with the physical thinking and the trust you can find in the physical intelligence. Work on this connectivity through out the whole body through a form of body consciousness that allows for strength, abandon and control. Bring the floor support to standing work and find a more powerful core, by investigating further your upper/lower body connection. Work with the ground even when you are standing and moving in space to be able to elaborate further with detailed risk. Think about the space you create with your body. Risk the abandon further, find and understand the control through your core and extremities and then deviate. Really looking forward to continue this research together.
Mészáros Máté:
Be more observant on the class and keep your focus to get the most of the corrections. fast improvement from the start.
Marco Torrice:
The group was generally really attentive and communicative, carrying on a light concentration and opening an honest and efficient space of questions and observations.
She had a nice focus and energy. I encourage her to pay more attention on the alignment work, on to the 'up and forward' motion, and on the shifting of the body weight. This will help making her dance more light and powerful. Where ever we want to go, when have to know before where are we standing on!
Szonda Fanni:
Dear Nina,
I am happy to work with you! It’s hard to write a feedback after a couple of hours, but we all have goals and we are on the right way to get there! You are all enthusiastic and it’s really good. Thank you for your hard work!
Lemesánszky Mónika:
We had a great group this past term, where everyone was motivated and listened to instructions well. I really hope you can keep this up next term as well.
I can see a lot of improvement in your class-work, especially in remembering the exercises, using releves and your timing and form is much better. You should keep up the strengthening, and normalise your energy levels. Try to work on opening your chest and lift your upper arm in next term.
Szemessy Kinga:
In general I found you being a very intrigued group with trust and curiosity towards me and the class content. Keep these good energies and the curious listening to each others.
You already have a well-established, though definitely not oppressing critical stance towards any appearances within the dance field. Beside you are intrigued by the unknown topics and moreover about your classmates’ thoughts. I can only thank you for your work!
Bakó Tamás:
You seem to be excited about learning dance. You work wholeheartedly and bring very positive energy to the classes. You are a nice person who is attentive and supportive what noticeably makes you successful in cooperation and communication in life. But these characters somehow belongs to Contact Improvisation too. It looks like that you have access right away to some of the principles of the form. One can see that you have lot of joy by this practice.
In the future you will need to grow more awareness of the anatomical and physical principles to support physicality and achieve optimal strength and coordination to meet your full capacities as a dancer.

SUMMARY | 2018 June
Lemesánszky Mónika:
General notes to the group: The group worked well together all year and had good energy throughout.
Personal notes: The quality of your work is very much depend on your mood, which is changeable. Sometimes you shine, other times you are resigned. You have missed quite a few classes lately. If this won't change, I believe that you will not succeed in this profession. As a dancer you have to always thrive for the best result. The audience pays for a performance, not interested if you are tired, not in the mood or just hot. Try to work on improving your muscle strength. Your musicality has improved a lot lately.
Angelus Iván:
General notes to the group: Group A's cohesion, general level of demand, work intensity is far from an efficient state. Low levels are very low, higher levels are not very high. Differences are big and do not converge. Tasks mostly remain asks: both on individual and on group level are almost never completely fulfilled. The acceptance of mediocrity is a danger. The often tired and depressed atmosphere + the lack of successful initiatives, playfulness, joy doesn't help successful learning.
Talent is still present, strong motivation is there on the level of words, but persistence, diligence, high energy, stability, concentration, health, self demand are missing from daily practice in general.
I have added a short categorization: Excellent, good, weak, failed. All refer to your actual state as a prospective contemporary dance performing artist from my point of view as your teacher. Do not accept, improve.
Personal notes: I have no new instructions, suggestions. With this much work I am afraid you will not achieve what you want. Need MUCH MORE intensity.
Bakó Tamás:
You work wholeheartedly in the classes. As a rather slow learner it takes some time to catch and process information for you but as we went along and you felt more safe got faster and gained more understanding of the material. Relationships and directions of the body parts according to the body movement and space are better understood but nevertheless these areas needs to be further investigated and worked. You have a fragile stature it seems that your body needs time to establish security and confidence. In the future you will need to grow more awareness of the anatomical and physical principles to build agency of physicality achieve optimal strength and support structure.
Keep up the good work!
Szemessy Kinga:
I felt you had started the year on a very high level of energy and enthusiasm that decreased a lot by now. Now it is rather wavy – hope you know the reason behind and can change it. According to your cultural background you have a lot to share, don't forget it.
Tijen Lawton:
Focus on connectivity and awareness…a mindful training of the brain and body.Challenge the physical intelligence, strength and movement capacity.
This is an intense a difficult way of working, it takes time, and the results are rewarding and can create a versatile dancer or performer. Therefore patience ant persistence are essential. Work is needed to continue to find the centre and grounded force through connecting the extremities of the body through the centre and using the floor work to establish a base of strength and support. So using the transfer of weight in the floor work and searching for all possible points of support and resistance…combining fluidity and strength and then incorporate it into standing work and moving in space. Try to combine focus , with instinct, generosity to challenge your physical intelligence, strength and movement capacity through persistence and patience, searching for the precision, intention and intensity of movement through a form of body consciousness, breaking limits in order to be innovative, impulsive and instinctive through the continuous, ongoing questioning of the body…focus, focus, focus…looking forward to challenging this together.
Joe Alegado és Csasznyi Blanka:
General notes to the group: We would like to make a general comment concerning the students. We feel that, even though each of them are individuals with different needs and capabilities, as a group, we find them to be very inspiring and supportive of each other. Whenever one person is missing from class or is experiencing a difficult time in life, the others step in to create a support system by helping with movements from class or with words of encouragement. This communal approach is a very positive step in the direction of resolving issues arising from misunderstandings in movement concepts and principles, or life situations. As mentioned before, each student has individual needs and capabilities. In the Alegado Movement Language, there are very basic principles which, when discovered, can determine the quality and focus of every individual’s source of movement. One very basic principle is the acceptance of gravity and its effect on the quality of the movement. The dropping of the head in its forward descent to the basic curve, is one of the principles we have chosen to focus on. As a group, we have seen progress in the students as they have begun to embrace the idea of surrendering their weight to gravity. This action has accomplished several things: 1) the conquering of fear 2) the effect on each student’s plie 3) the student’s ability to use that plie in shifting the pelvis 4) the application of a strong and active core and how all of these elements are applied to translate into a musical and physical expression of the body through movement. This has been a focus in class because, in doing so, it will help resolve the difficulties a dancer has when trying to access their deepest, most organic connection to the earth. When this release of the body’s unnecessary tensions happens and their weight begins to fall without fear, the student’s ability to risk grows, their awareness is heightened, their musicality is awakened and their confidence in moving through space becomes a natural force of energy. We will now continue by using these class objectives as the basis for all comments.
Personal notes:
Nina has been experiencing a big challenge with this class process. In the beginning stages of this series of classes back in March, we could sense she was having feelings of frustration. These feelings were understandable being that it was clear she had very little background in technical dance training. Yet, after a pause in classes (due to our teaching schedule abroad), she returned reenergized and more determined.
Being a tall person, it is important to have a very active central core. Everyone should but a tall person has more to move around in space and so, therefore, it’s even more important to have the core very accessible. Nina has shown improvement not only in her decision to overcome her frustration in class but also in the commitment to the search within her body. When Nina digs deep and reveals some of those secrets hidden inside of her, the Amazon woman will come out roaring and, at that moment in time, I dare the viewer to look at anybody else on stage.
Szonda Fanni:
This year was the "warm-up", during the next year we will work harder. You have got the basics, now you can see the system of the school better, so from Semptember you can be more efficient in practising and how to manage your time the best way.

SUMMARY | 2018 December
This semester, I feel more confident and determinate, with more resistance and catching materials fast. I really need to work on straightening myself, mostly my core. I feel a lot of wish to create and understand my tools and my ways on a natural flow.
Sometimes felt frustrated about myself in some classes, but I've realise that is very important to keep with my objectives strong on my mind, taking the best of every situation, even more when it seems to be something physical unreachable for me.
Ballet
Piruets, jumps and diagonals are becoming much more enjoyable, and my body is getting the shape of it. I feel a huge difference between my left and right sides, and the need to open more my hips. Vocabulary is getting something very familiar and I can really relate the movements only by listening the names.
Kristof is helping a lot on being more aware of my ankles, structure and fluidity. Tibor helps with being precise with the shapes and straightness, and Atila helped a lot on me finding a way to really expand trough the whole body the movement by the core.
Folk
I can finally feel I can get something out of it, my body is finding a more familiar place and so I can be more fluid and relate better with rhythm and weight changes. I feel it also improved a lot my way to dance Brazilian "folk" dances and others…
Contemporary Dance
Understanding material and keeping it is being much easier, I think thanks to Anita's research on Learning Strategies , I am able to analyses better the movements before doing it, but I see and receive from teachers that I should really work on my center so that I could really spend the movements on a more complete way.
IW
Planning before is something that helps on really paying attention on what I need to develop and also what my body is needing to focus, the last ones I more and more focus on straightening, and I feel some changes already.
The Dance diary is something I could still make it effective, while think about it is giving me good insights. I really wanna focus on making the diary work for next period.
TEACHERS' EVALUATIONS | 2018 December
Bakó Tamás:
You are working hard on the classes and make lot of effort to understand the material. But as a rather slow learner markedly it takes some time to catch and process information for you. The memory and the order of the steps, the differentiation and articulation of the movements, the differentiation of the sides, the orientations inside and outside the body, coordination in general has to be further examined and elaborated. Also as I wrote it last time you need to grow more awareness of the anatomical and physical principles to build agency of physicality to achieve optimal strength and support for your structure.
You need stronger foundations to move on.
Angelus Iván:
General notes to the group:
In this semester I had the chance to meet all of you in the three main territories of our school: 1. sharing new information, 2. developing your creativity, 3. developing your social skills. I feel myself and you successful in point one and two, and I have hard time at point 3. with all of you. This is because of the social environment surrounding us. Solving this difficulty is the task itself. The level of cooperation and sincereness is that makes difference in the common success.
My short evaluations will be strict and related to your development related to school requirements:
I will tick Excellent box at who are developing well, basically in harmony with school guidelines, hopefully will reach their goal to become a professional contemporary dancer.
I will sign Satisfactory/Good at those who could make (much) more in their own sake.
I will sign Failed at those who do not live with their possibilities and should change their attitude in order to become more successful or to those who are on the right way to find their own direction that may be out of the school's profile. It can be considered a success too. Failed may mean you have to work on your trajectory out of school or it may mean to stay in school but work on a higher level.
Personal notes:
Nina!
Without working, dancing, MUCH more you will never get closer to your extreme borders, to your real possibilities.
Poets are not poetic. Painters are not picturesque. Artist are not artistic. You do not have to be interesting. Your work, your results should be interesting. The dance you create, the production should be interesting. Concentrate on that: the production, the outcome. Not yourself.
Find yourself in relation to dance: a dramaturge? a directress? a writer? a performance artist? a dancer? Dance can help you to remain on earth with two legs. Root deep in gravity.
You haven't find your route, your place yet I think, but may be you are not so far. Work harder, and more curious. That is a big and exciting challenge for the – hopefully close – future. Relax and come back strong and decided.
Köszönöm a munkádat!
Várnagy Kristóf:
General notes to the group:
It is my general note, not only to group A-B, or C but for the whole of the students, that it is a heartwarming how you grew into a good and functioning community. It is great to see you supporting each other.
Personal notes:
Resilience is the quality you have to improve, and then you will reach your full potential.
Urvi Vora:
General notes to the group:
After my brief, intensive interaction with everyone, I have very much enjoyed reading the diverse essays from all of you – very different approaches, levels and processes. My feedback is focussed on your essay and I hope it helps you think of how to push it forward from here as there is always much more to do.
Good luck with all your future plans and upcoming work in the school! It was wonderful to see all your thoughts turn into something on paper!
Personal notes:
A very brave and innovative approach to talk about the continuity and the circular nature of the process of creation. I particularly enjoyed how the essay itself came full circle to make its point in the larger scheme. It is quite convincing and clear.
I would ask you to think about the nuances in the same argument to make it sharper. Do you think humans created cows? Or while domesticating cows that already existed, they created a new idea of cows? – Does this give them a more complicated relationship than creature-creator? Would the cow think it has a creator or a caretaker?
Secondly, when you theorise about the cow helping the human survive, it is very complicated to speak in turn of a cow. The cow did not intend to do this, the cow union did not decide they want humans to live longer. Even a cow’s milk is being taken from the cow, not being offered to the human. So in this case, how does it complicate the matters of continuity?
Lastly, to make this more intersting and challenging for yourself, do think of how you are using the word creation. I found some of the ideas very interesting and they can be taken forward by thinking about other studies – like how machines also desire humans the way humans desire machines.
